HORTICULTURE PROJECT UPDATE
The ministry established this project two months back by training the caregivers on how to grow vegetables on small holding gardens and sacks. The objective was to fight malnutrition among malnourished children in families who were dying at a high pace due to poor practice of feeding and cultural beliefs.

Currently the planted crops such as egg plants, onions, tomatoes, drum head, pumpkins and collards are doing very well. They are often sprayed with chemicals.
The good news is the first batch of collards planted in sacks reached a stage of harvest. Well as the rest in the month of September will have reached the harvesting period.
The twenty families that were sampled through empowerment and equipping them with agricultural skills, their children are healthy and doing very well. These families are to be a role model and peer educators to the entire community, teaching others how to manage and grow vegetables.
The vegetables are rich in vitamins that help in building immune system of the body to fight against diseases. This has created joy and happiness as families eats together meals and greens are side dish to make a complete balanced die
t.
Often, collards are harvested twice a week. We look forward coming 2021; no more malnourished children in the community and the program will have reached to primary schools.
The biggest challenge is the climatic changes of no reliable rainfall affect the growth of these vegetables since the area looks to be semi arid. Keep us in prayers to achieve the objective of this project and creating a smile on the faces of the mothers and a children in families.
