Auma Elizabeth is 28years of age a mother of three children namely; Kadogo Joan (8), Auma Justine (5) and Nandera Sylivia (11) who were found living in abject poverty. In addition to her own three children, she supports two orphans that were her sister’s children. Her sister recently passed away. Also, Auma’s husband is gone quite a bit and most times takes doesn’t attend to family needs which leave Auma struggling to support all these children by herself. This has a terrible effect on the children leaving them with feelings of hopelessness.
Now, through the introduction of child sponsorship program by Feds Uganda Ministries, Auma’s three children are now sponsored by an American woman who caters for their educational fees US $60 each, scholastic materials US $ 6 each, nutrition and also empowering the caregiver with an income generating activity. They are loved and now attend school with a purpose of reaching their different dreams of being a teacher, a doctor, and a lawyer.
Also, empowering a family through small-scale a business is a major key in reducing poverty in communities. Auma Elizabeth empowered to start up selling silver fish with a purpose of raising funds to support her family. She was provided the startup funds for her business by the American woman sponsoring her children.
She sells a tin of silverfish at USD $0.4 due to high demand. Silverfish is rich in proteins and also helps to fight measles in children, hence promoting good health. Through her daily selling, Elizabeth is expected to start up a poultry project from the profits. The purpose of this business is to see that she is able to improve on her household income, support the children’ needs as she fights against abject poverty as a way of improving the standard of living.
