SUCCESS STORY ON VEGETABLE GROWING
Am pleased to deliver our sincerely greetings to our friends who support us in prayers and financial support to make our families strive and survive.
In most times you have surely made our project a success in nurturing, rescuing and discipling the little ones and mothers to be Christ like.
Friends of South Ministries Uganda (Feds Uganda) has always sought big about the empowerment and sustainability to us. Many programs have been set up relating to boosting the body immunity and promoting food security through Functional Adult literacy learning that is done through group activities.
Previously vegetable growing and eating was seen as a taboo among the people living around the lake shores of Victoria since they carried out casual fishing.
Through the program our attitude has changed to growing demonstration gardens of sukuma wiki, egg plants, tomatoes, onions and dodo.
We are taught the skills of growing and monitoring it up to the market level. From it am pleased to mention that my family is stable from malnutrition as my children used to fall sick. Vegetable growing has greatly caused an impact in my family through excessive support in payment of school fees for my children, besides the health of many and those in surrounding communities has greatly changed hence reduced treatment cost.
Friends of South Ministries Uganda have totally boosted our families through various activities taught to us such as livelihood skills, candle making, bakery and hair dressing. I therefore praise God through our staffs for training us on how to grow vegetables in our community. Though there are still challenges of market since it takes shorter time of harvest. The program has sensitized us on preparing a balanced diet with the available local foods as a way of maximizing the expenditure. The poor cultural altitude of not eating some foods like “dodo ” is changing gradually. This is always backed with the biblical scriptures. When one is seen picking dodo, it was a sign of poverty in that person’s home now we are the heroes in income generating activities to boost up our families.
Through group activity am encouraged to feed on dodo as well not to feel shy because it is local medicine in boosting the body immunity and my children’ healthy has greatly changed. This is because they used to poor feeding practices and bad cultural habits.
I pray that God enables our friends of South Ministries to continue ministering to us and also those providing them with funds. Because had it not to be the ones our families had lost hope.
All this was narrated by Mrs. Nabwire Beatrice.
